Counting Off...Counting Down...

We hope you and yours are doing well, and staying safe and healthy. You’re an important part of our community, and we’re here to keep you connected. Read on for our ABLE at Home activity of the week and a special save the date!

Count Off

We believe staying connected in the face of coronavirus is DO-ABLE! That's why A.B.L.E. teaching artists and facilitators have created a video series featuring some of our favorite A.B.L.E. games. You can play them with your family or housemates while you’re at home during this time. You can find the full series on YouTube at bit.ly/ABLEathome

This week, teaching artist Emma, Kiaran, and Sean demonstrate how to play COUNT OFF. This game is best played by 3 or more people. It is a great way to work on nonverbal communication, turn taking, and teamwork. It also helps us practice being okay with being wrong. The Counting Game is one of our favorite ways to try to refocus in the middle of a busy rehearsal. We haven’t tried it on Zoom yet, but maybe we should!

If you play at home, take a photo or video share it with us on social media using the hashtags #ableensemble and #doable. If you play at home, take a photo or video share it with us on social media using the hashtags #ableensemble and #doable.

Count Down

This week was supposed to be spring break for our ensembles. Our teen ensembles would be receiving their final roles for Comedy of Errors, and our adult ensemble would have a full script completed based on the stories they wrote for O for a Muse. But, of course, things don’t always go the way we plan. Instead, this week, we’re hosting shorter (45 minute) bonus rehearsals to keep our team connected and ensure we get a weekly dose of fun.

This will be our 4th week of virtual rehearsals on Zoom. Over the past few weeks, we’ve shown off beloved objects from our homes. We’ve found or made our own Foley materials and costumes. We’ve talked about our feelings a lot. We’ve danced together. We’ve laughed together. We’ve sung together….well, sort of…check out this video from Friday’s class to have a laugh at our internet latency issues:

We’re forging ahead in our brave new world, and we plan to use the technology available to us to create our ensemble’s spring projects. Even though we can’t all be together in a theatre, we can still use the stories we’ve been working on all semester to create something special. This spring, we’ll be trying new mediums and sharing our creativity in new ways. Even better, no matter where you are in the world, you’ll be able to take part!

Stay tuned for the the announcement - including how YOU can support these projects - in our newsletter on April 15th!
