Auditions!! It was finally the time for auditions for Pirates of Penzance for our Monday Ensemble. Everybody was very excited with audition packets in hand. However, we needed to do a little warming up first. We played a new game inspired by Kendra and Peter. It's much like our regular alligator/elephant game but the person in the middle had three options- police, pirate, or daughter.
After audition prep last week, everyone knew what to do. Sam was first up and showed us a very distinguished Frederick. Colleen had us all rolling on the floor with laughter with her interpretation of the Octogenarian Ruth while Emily K was a very official Police officer. Over the next couple of weeks we will be working with Peter and Kendra to cast the show and we canβt wait to start giving the show shape!
Our Friday ensemble had so much to do this week! To help us think like Frederic and to better understand his Victorian sense of duty, our check-in question this week was, "What is something you don't like to do but have to do?" In PIRATES OF PENZANCE, Frederic must remain a pirate even though he hates piracy. Our ensemble had some great answers. Mila (as well as a few others) said she must continue do her homework!
The second half of class focused on auditions. Every actor had to select three characters and perform one of their lines. Almost everyone picked the Pirate King as one of their favorites. He has some exciting lines, including:
For I am a Pirate King!
And it is, it is a glorious thing
To be a Pirate King!
