This semester, 6 new actors and 5 new facilitators joined our ensembles. We’re having a blast getting to know everyone, and seeing all the talent, energy, and enthusiasm they bring to our rehearsals. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to one of our newest facilitators, who has already proven to be a thoughtful and knowledgable partner, and a great asset to our Friday ensemble…..Meet KIARAN!
Name: Kiaran Hartnett
Birthday: 8/16
Hometown: Milwaukee, WI
Why did you start volunteering with ABLE?: I just recently moved to Chicago, but back in Milwaukee and at the University of Minnesota, I was always involved in different theatre groups that worked with kids or people with special needs. I volunteered with interAct in Minnesota, a theatre company that employed adults with disabilities. I was also a resource teacher and lead teacher with First Stage’s Next Steps Program, a theatre that works with kids on the autism spectrum. A mentor of mine from Milwaukee referred me to ABLE and said it’d be a great fit based on my experience!
What’s your job when you’re not with us?: I’m an ABA therapist for kids on the autism spectrum.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?: I love to rock climb, make music (I sing, play piano and guitar), dance, bike, and write poetry.
Do you have a hidden talent?: I know some sign language and I speak Spanish.
Who is your favorite actor/performer? What do you like about them?: Currently, I really like Zendaya. She’s a young actress and she follows her impulses with such ease. From what I’ve seen in interviews, she’s a thoughtful and caring scene partner with a great sense of humor.
If you won a million dollars, what would you do?: I would travel as much as I could.
What’s your go-to dance party song?: “Dance Yrself Clean” by LCD Soundsystem
