We can’t say it enough: we have the greatest volunteers! Facilitators are an integral part of our ensemble - they rotate in and out of rehearsals each week and ensure everyone has a fun and productive rehearsal. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to one of our newest team members: CLAIRE!
What’s your name: Claire Chrzan
When’s your birthday?: 11/09/1989 - the day the Berlin Wall came down, my parents watched the news coverage in the hospital.
Where are you from?: Des Plaines IL
Why did you become a facilitator with A.B.L.E.?: Chicago Shakespeare contacted me to work as the lighting designer for ABLE’s teen ensemble performances in December and I had a really fun time, I wanted to spend more time with such an energetic and dedicated group of performers! It’s also nice to have a theatre activity in my week that isn’t lighting and doesn’t feel like a job- it’s just fun!
What’s your job when you’re not with us?: Freelance lighting designer, sometimes production manager or stage manager.
What are some of your favorite hobbies?: Traveling, spending time outdoors, reading, trying new restaurants, seeing live theatre and music, cuddling with my dog, Arrow. Hanging out or working alongside my partner Chris, who is a sound designer.
Do you have a hidden talent?: I am pretty good at scrabble.
Who is your favorite performer and why?: It’s hard to choose a favorite actor, but I especially appreciate an artist who uses their platform to speak out against inequality or injustice. I particularly love Emma Watson for her activism, her on camera skills, and her impressive academic career.
What would you do if you won a million dollars?: If I won a million dollars I would put the money towards keeping the arts in our schools. Engaging in art music and performance creates more well rounded and empathetic human beings. As a student I had access to music, theatre and visual arts of all kinds. All children deserve to have the same access to those important forms of expression.
What’s your go-to dance party song?: Don’t Stop Me Now, by Queen.
Anything else you’d like to share?: I’m much more comfortable backstage than onstage but I am looking forward to performing with ABLE this spring! I design mostly for theatre but also enjoy lighting dance. Work has afforded me the opportunity to travel semi-frequently. But there’s no place like home, and my favorite way to spend a day off is with my family.
