Our teaching artists met on Sunday to game-plan for this spring, and we are so excited to share a sneak peek with you today!
We learned the songs that we'll be singing in our show including three verses of "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General." Filled with fun, tongue-twister lyrics ("He's very well acquainted too with matters mathematical, He understands equations both the simple and quadradical..."), our ensembles will start learning the words and choreography in the first class to be sure we're ready for our performance on May 20.
Our Pirates of Penzance cast of characters will include a Pirate King and his kind-hearted mates, a Police Sergeant and his bumbling crew, and Major-General Stanley and his cheerful daughters - including the lovely Mabel who falls in love with Frederic the Pirate. We are already thinking about costume pieces -- a ravishing hat? a parasol? -- that will best capture the traits of these characters.
This semester is shaping up to be a lot of fun and we hope you'll come along for the ride! To register for one of our teen ensembles, sign up online. Interested in volunteering? Send us an email. And be sure to save the date for our performances at Victory Gardens on May 20!
