Even when we don't have regular classes going on, there is still a lot of work happening behind the scenes at A.B.L.E.. This summer, we've been busy planning The Spy Who Knew Me, applying for our 501c3 status, training new facilitators, and getting set for an exciting new year of programming! Fortunately, we've had some incredible help from our Summer Programming Intern...
MEET MARGARET!
Margaret is good friends with our actor Lucy's sister, and has seen many of our productions through the years. A theater student with several years of production experience, she's helped in a ton of ways including sitting through non-profit seminars, making props (check out those jetpacks!), and compiling an exercise manual and visual aids for our Facilitators. On-Set, she's our script supervisor, helping to keep us on schedule and ensure continuity from take to take. We'll let her introduce herself...
Name: Margaret Sheils
Birthday: April 26!
Hometown: Chicago, IL
What’s your job when you’re not with us?: I’m a student at Beloit College!
How Long Have You Been With ABLE?: This is my first summer with ABLE
Why did you start working with ABLE? Had you done this type of work before?: I started working with ABLE because I had always seen their shows and have been dying to get involved ever since they were performing through GiGi’s Playhouse. This summer, my school encouraged me to get an internship that aligned with what I wanted to do, so I contacted Katie and the rest is history! I have worked with individuals with special needs before, but never with a theater aspect!
Favorite ABLE memory from class or performance?: It might be too soon for me to have a favorite memory, I am looking forward to having a blast filming with all of the actors. I will never forget watching them on stage at Chicago Shakes, though!
What's your favorite way to perform Acting, Singing, or Dancing?: Super close tie between Acting and Singing
Do you have a hidden talent?: I would say playing the guitar is my hidden talent, since I haven’t played in months it’s pretty well hidden, but I can do it!
Who is your favorite actor/performer? What do you like about them?: Is it cliché to say Meryl Streep? It’s a tie between her and Renée Elise Goldsberry at the moment. Meryl can do anything, ANYTHING and Renee is a force of nature in every different kind of role that she plays. I want that voice, please!
What’s your go-to dance party song?: My go to dance party song would definitely be any of the more upbeat songs from Hamilton. I could dance “Non-Stop” to those songs… ha, ha.
