Each Friday, we're introducing you to one of our fabulous, friendly, fantastic Facilitators. This week, get to know...

Eva Laporte

Name: Eva Laporte...there is no capital P in Laporte. It’s not LaPorte. Or LaPont. Or LaTarte. All of which I have been called/written about…

Birthday: 11/11 !!!

When you’re not at ABLE, what’s your job? I’m an actor, director and work by day as the Education & Access Manager at Chicago Children’s Theatre!

Tell us a bit about your performing background: A California native, I have a degree in acting from the University of Northern Colorado, and has studied at The National Theatre Conservatory in Denver, the National Theater Institute at the Eugene O’Neill Center, the Moscow Art Theatre School and the Royal Shakespeare Company. I've performed all around Houston at many different theatre and some of my favorite performances onstage include Sonya in Uncle Vanya (Classical Theatre Company), Laura in The Glass Menagerie (Little Theater of the Rockies and Classic Theatre of San Antonio), Lucy in Mr. Marmalade (Attic Rep at Trinity), Julie Jordan in Carousel and Margy in State Fair (The Playhouse), Sally Brown in You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Sister James Doubt and Louise in The Underpants (The Church).

In addition to performing, I also direct and have worked nationally with new plays in development, with playwrights such as Mark Medoff, Caridad Svich, Edward Albee and Philip Edward Dawkins, and in devised work. Favorite work includes Rebecca Gilman’s Dollhouse, Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, Brilliant Traces, POST: The Coitus Plays, Once More With Feeling: A Power Play, I Love You Because, The Dancers. Also The Lysistrata Project at the Moscow Art Theatre, a performance that included American, Israeli, and Russian actors for the peace project on 03.03.03.

As an educator, I serve as Chicago Children’s Theatre’s Education & Access Manager, and teach residencies in Chicago-area Schools in addition to managing The Red Kite Project. In Houston, I worked as Stages Repertory Theatre’s Director of Education and Communications, overseeing education programs and internships, and directing the Young Actors Conservatory. I also served as the artistic director for the Jefferson County Summer Theatre program in Denver, CO, bringing together high school students to produce original musicals, including a piece from the students at Columbine. One of my favorite projects was traveling to Guyana to direct new works and lead workshops with young people in Georgetown.

Between Acting, Singing, and Dancing, what's your favorite? Acting – yay!

Who is your favorite actor/performer? What do you like about them? That’s like asking my favorite kind of candy!!! Too many to list… I really am in love with Amy Poehler, like everyone on the planet, I guess.

How Long Have You Been With ABLE? I started to work with ABLE at the beginning of 2015 when we joined together with CCT.

Favorite ABLE memory? Being on stage with the cast at Adventures in Wonderland and being at the movie premiere for The Curse of the Tempest Jewel!
