Big things are happening at A.B.L.E.. As we gear up for our 10th Anniversary Festival and the launch of our spring fundraising campaign next week, we are also delighted to introduce a new member of our leadership team – please welcome our Interim Executive Director, Peter Handler!

Peter Handler is a consultant and strategist for nonprofits, foundations and individuals. His services include: interim executive staffing; strategic planning; organizational assessments; executive coaching; meeting facilitation; program evaluation; research into new initiatives; fundraising strategy; and professional writing and editing. His recent clients include: Shorefront Legacy Center, The Coleman Foundation, Our Place of New Trier Township, The Baskin Family Foundation, Remy Bumppo Theatre Company, and The House Theatre of Chicago. Peter is also a playwright and a co-chair of the Independent Productions Initiative, a project that supports independent play productions in Chicago.

As A.B.L.E.’s Interim Executive Director, Peter’s role is to ease the departure of our Founder and Executive Artistic Director Katie, and help imagine A.B.L.E.’s next chapter. Peter will lead our staff in maintaining A.B.L.E.’s programs, fundraising, and operations efforts. He will offer stability, consistency, and clarity for the Board, outgoing and incoming leadership, and the A.B.L.E. community at large through this period of change.

“I’m honored and delighted to be starting a new position as Interim Executive Director at ABLE. The organization does exciting work that enriches the cultural landscape of Chicago.”

“From an incredible pool of candidates, we agreed that Peter's strengths and experience with staff and boards at organizations of all different sizes, including organizations that support the disability community, make him an incredible fit for A.B.L.E.. We think he’ll be a steady, guiding hand in the Interim ED role, and a great complement to the programming work already being done by Haley, our Teaching Artists, and volunteer facilitators."
