A memorABLE new season

Ensembe members sing and spread their arms wide to the sky

This season, A.B.L.E. will mark 10 years as an independent 501c3 dedicated to providing performing arts opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to share who they are and all they are ABLE to do. In honor of this landmark anniversary, our 2025-2026 Season will focus on the theme of MEMORY – we’ll take time to look back so we can grow forward together.

Throughout the season, 8 different ensembles will collaborate on a variety of virtual and in-person projects, ranging from casual showcases highlighting different performance styles to full-length performances. A.B.L.E. is delighted to work with 3 new partner theaters this season to reach audiences in new neighborhoods. Our shows include a flashbacks to some of our greatest hits as well as the world premiere of an original piece that will debut during a week-long festival commemorating a decade of boundary-breaking inclusive theatre.

Frankenstein: October 24-26, 2025

After a sold out run at Chicago Shakespeare Theater, we are thrilled to bring our critically acclaimed adaptation of Mary Shelley’s famous tale back to life for audiences October 24-26 at Theater Wit This punk-rock inspired adaptation blends music, movement, and scenes devised by the neurodiverse ensemble into a provocative and personal exploration of ambition, isolation, and the balance between the head and the heart.

What's your favorite A.B.L.E. memory?

Over the past decade, more than 80 actors have taken part in our core ensembles creating 23 productions for the stage and screen. We’ve been supported by a team of volunteers who have given over 10,000 hours in rehearsal and onstage, and we've worked with countless independent artists, local venues, and community partners to further our mission. As we look back on 10 years of connecting and creating, we would love to hear your favorite memories of ABLE.

A.B.L.E.’s 2025-2026 Season is partially supported by The Chicago Community Trust, Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, FunFund, Fs Foundation, The Illinois Arts Council, The Paul M.
